About this place

※ Please note before visiting: due to a wildfire in March 2025, the building was completely destroyed. This house is a 'mieum'-shaped (ㅁ) building facing south beneath the low foot of Yeonhwabong Peak, built around 1780 by Sin Chi-hak, a 19th-generation descendant of Sun, the founding ancestor of the Pansagong branch of the Pyeongsan Sin clan. Built in the same period as the Seobyeok Historic House and the head house of the Pyeongsan Sin clan, which lie to the right of this house, it is a comparatively large building. The sarangchae (men's quarters) has a high stylobate that makes it look like a raised pavilion, and its hip-and-gable roof is set high, giving it the feel of an independent, separate building—an unusual structure for an ordinary residence.
