The place name 'Naeat' means Cheonjeon (川前), or 'the village in front of the Banbyeoncheon stream.' This homogeneous village of the Uiseong Kim clan has maintained 500 years of history. According to feng shui, the village is shaped like 'Wansaemyeongwol' (浣紗明月形) - silk spread out under moonlight - signifying the emergence of high-ranking officials bringing wealth and fame. Located about 8 km from downtown Andong toward Yeongdeok, one can spot old houses on the left side of the road - these are the Kim clan's ancestral homes forming the village called Naeat. The village became particularly famous for producing many independence activists. Independence heroes such as Kim Dae-rak (Baekha) and Kim Dong-sam were born here, and the number of independence merit holders from Naeat is said to reach 25.
