About this place

Singi Village was established when Jang Deokbok of the Indong Jang clan settled here in the 28th year of King Seonjo (1595), after the devastation of the Imjin War. Having suffered through the war, the settlers chose this place where the vital energy of Jirisan extends into an auspicious site, naming it 'Saeteo (Singi, meaning new ground)' to represent a fresh start in life. The village's topography is described as wauhhyeong, resembling a cow lying peacefully. At Chobong Hill, there was once a villa built by Park Heeok, a wealthy man of Unbong. He invited many master singers and enjoyed pansori performances there, actively supporting them and greatly contributing to the development of pansori.
