About this place

Wonhyoam is a temple said to have been founded by the Venerable Wonhyo (617–686) of the Unified Silla period, and is a sub-temple of Eunhaesa Temple (head temple of the 10th district of the Jogye Order), located on the slopes of Palgongsan Mountain in Wachon-myeon, Gyeongsan-si. Because there is a spring of cold water flowing year-round behind Wonhyoam, it is also called Naengcheonsa (Cold Spring Temple). North of Wonhyoam, along a mountain path, is the Gyeongsan Wonhyoam Rock-carved Seated Buddha, designated as a Gyeongsangbuk-do Tangible Cultural Heritage. In 1980, the Daeungjeon (main hall) and Samseongak (Three Saints Shrine) were built. After a major fire in 1986, the Geungnakjeon (Amitabha Hall) and Sannyeonggak (Mountain Spirit Shrine) were rebuilt. In 2016, the Geungnakjeon, which had enshrined only the Amitabha statue, was consecrated with flanking Avalokitesvara and Mahasthamaprapta bodhisattva statues to form the Amitabha Triad.
