About this place

Mireugam is a hermitage of the Taego Order of Korean Buddhism in Noam-dong, Namwon-si, Jeollabuk-do, estimated to have been founded at the end of the Silla period or the beginning of Goryeo. It originally comprised a Mireuk hall, a main hall, and monks' quarters; in 1992 a Daeungjeon main hall was built, and in 1994 a Yonghwajeon and Sansingak were newly constructed. Inside the Yonghwajeon, a 192 cm tall Goryeo-period stone Buddha found at the temple site is enshrined, and is designated a Jeollabuk-do Cultural Heritage Material. The valley where this temple is located has long been called 'Buddha Valley,' suggesting a temple has existed here since very ancient times. It is also said that women who pray here for a child are often granted their wish.
