Geumsansa Temple is a venerable temple that was founded in the Baekje period and has kept its dharma light burning for over 1,400 years to the present day. It is located on the western slopes of Moak Mountain, which rises prominently from the Honam Plain. The temple suffered great hardship when all its buildings and more than 40 hermitages within the mountain were completely destroyed by fire set by Japanese troops during the Jeongyu War (second Japanese invasion of 1597). After that, however, many cultural artifacts were produced and have been passed down to the present day. (Source: Geumsansa Temple website)
