About this place

The Buyeo Neungan-gol Ancient Tomb Cluster is a Baekje burial ground located east of the Buyeo Neungsan-ri Tumuli (a Historic Site), alongside the Baekje Outer Wall and Cheongmasanseong Fortress. Excavations conducted between 1995 and 1996 uncovered more than 30 corridor stone-chamber tombs (hoengholyeok sil-myo), over 20 stone-lined pit graves (seokgwak-myo), and 4 jar coffin burials (onggwan-myo). A variety of burial arrangements were found — individual burials, joint burials, and infant graves. Artefacts recovered include silk fabrics, gold earrings, silver crown ornaments, and waist-belt fittings. Based on the tomb types and recovered artefacts, the cluster is attributed to Baekje aristocratic burials of the 6th to 7th century, and it provides important data for the study of late Baekje funerary customs and ancient dress.
