This historic house, often called a 'ninety-nine-room house,' is a representative example of upper-class Joseon residential architecture. It was built over approximately ten years by Kim Myeong-gwan, the sixth ancestor of Kim Dong-su, in the 8th year of King Jeongjo (1784). Kim Myeong-gwan came down from Hanyang (Seoul) and chose an auspicious site below Cheonghasan Mountain, completing the house with a pond dug in front of the main gate.
