Hwasansa Shrine was founded in 1961 to enshrine the spirit tablets of six Joseon-era scholars and officials: Park Su-gi, Park Sang, Kim Jeong, Park Ji-gyeon, Park Sun, and Park Ji-hyo. All were civil officials and Confucian scholars of the mid-Joseon era known for their upright character and integrity. The shrine is affiliated with the Chungju Park clan and also honors Kim Jeong, who shared the same ideals as Park Sang.
