Iksan Hyanggyo (also called Geumma Hyanggyo) is a Joseon-dynasty local Confucian school located in Iksan, North Jeolla Province. Established in 1398 (the 7th year of King Taejo), it enshrined the memorial tablets of revered Confucian scholars. Twice a month — on the 1st and 15th of the lunar calendar — ceremonies were held, and the institution served the education and moral cultivation of local residents. According to the scale of each county, hyanggyo were classified as large, medium, or small; Iksan Hyanggyo was built as a medium-scale institution enshrining 39 sages, including Confucius, the Four Sages, the Ten Philosophers, the Six Confucians of the Song dynasty, and the Eighteen Eastern Confucians.
