Jeongeup Hyanggyo

The exact date when Jeongeup Hyanggyo was first built is unknown, but in the 16th year of King Injo (1638) the local Confucian scholars relocated it to its present site. It has since undergone eight repairs to reach its current form. The Daeseongjeon within the hyanggyo is where the memorial tablets of Confucius and other Confucian scholars of China and Korea are enshrined and rites are held. It measures three bays across the front and three bays on the side, and the roof is a gable roof shaped like the character for 'person' (人) when viewed from the side. The Daeseongjeon of Jeongeup Hyanggyo is designated as Cultural Heritage Material of Jeonbuk State.
