About this place

Seokpajeong is a representative detached garden estate (byeolseo garden) of the late Joseon period, celebrated for its traditional architecture in harmony with nature and its beautiful garden. Originally a detached residence of the Andong Kim clan, it was purchased by Heungseon Daewongun — the powerful political figure of late Joseon — who renamed it 'Seokpajeong' (石坡亭) after his own pen name, 'Seokpa' (石坡), meaning 'Stone Slope.'
