Cheongyang Confucian School's exact founding date is unknown, but records indicate a school and Confucian shrine already existed here in the early Joseon period. The buildings face west, and the layout includes the Myeongnyundang lecture hall, dormitory wings, and the Daeseongjeon shrine, which enshrines portraits of Confucius and tablets of 27 Confucian sages from China and Korea. The Confucius portrait was reportedly brought from Ming China by envoy Gang Seon-yeo in 1628.
