Taeguksa Temple is located on Seongdong Mountain in Jeongjuk-ri, Geunheung-myeon, Taean-gun, Chungcheongnam-do. Although its founding date is unknown, several legends about its establishment have been handed down. According to one account, during the reign of King Sejong of the Joseon dynasty, the prefect of Taean dreamed that a box was floating near the seashore of Anheung Port, and the dream urged him to retrieve it and handle it properly. Waking from the dream half-believing, the prefect went down to the seaside early in the morning and searched the area; he found what he had dreamed of, retrieved it, and built the temple. The temple is known for its scenic location and the legends surrounding its founding.
