About this place

Deokdong Cultural Village, a single-clan settlement of the Yeogang Yi clan that has carried on 400 years of customs, was highly esteemed for its heaven-given natural conditions and distinctive culture; it was designated a cultural village by the Ministry of Culture in 1992 and an eco-friendly village in 2001. This place was formed when, during the Imjin War, the civil official Jeong Mun-bu, on returning to Jeonju after the war's end, gave all his property to his granddaughter's husband Sauidang Yi Gang, whereupon Yi Gang settled and established the site. Deokdong Cultural Village well preserves old houses that boast beautiful nature and classical elegance. There are various cultural properties, including the Yonggyejeong designated as a Treasure; the Odeok-ri Aeeundang House and the Odeok-ri Saujeong House, designated as Gyeongsangbuk-do Folk Cultural Heritage; the Yeoyeondang House; and the Odeok-ri Deokgye Seodang, designated as Gyeongsangbuk-do Cultural Heritage Material. In addition, within the village there are a folk exhibition hall, a traditional-culture experience center, and a traditional café so that visitors can understand traditional culture.
