About this place

Manilsa Temple is located on the slopes of Hoemiongsan Mountain in Anjeon-ri, Gurim-myeon, Sunchang-gun, Jeonbuk. It was first established in 673 during the reign of King Mu of Baekje, and was rebuilt before Yi Seonggye became king through the efforts of National Preceptor Muhak in early Joseon. The temple was completely destroyed during the Korean War and rebuilt in 1954; a one-pillar gate, main hall (Daeungjeon), and monks' quarters were constructed in 1998. The name Manilsa derives from the story that Muhak prayed here for ten thousand days (만일, manir) to help Yi Seonggye ascend the throne. A commemorative stele (175 cm tall, 65 cm wide, 16 cm thick) records this event. Below the temple, scenic peaks including Sanan village, Mujiksan, and Seongmisan can be seen.
