About this place

Mowonae is the shrine of Master Kim Guk-gwang. Master Kim Guk-gwang passed the civil service examination in the 23rd year of King Sejong's reign (1441) and entered government service, then gained the deep trust of King Sejo by helping him ascend to the throne. He actively participated in compiling state records, and his official career progressed through the positions of Minister of Military Affairs (Byeongjo panseo), Second State Councillor (Uuijeong), and First State Councillor (Jwauijeong). Mowonae, built in the first year of King Injo's reign (1623), is 4 bays wide and 3 bays deep, with a hip-and-gable roof (paljakjibung) shaped like the Chinese character eight (八) when viewed from the side.
