Yeominru (Gate Pavilion)

This is a gate-pavilion (munru) that was built at the entrance of the Asan-gun government office during the Joseon period. On a low, east-facing stylobate, square pillar-shaped foundation stones are arranged, and round columns are erected upon them to form the pavilion floor. The lower level has three bays (kan) across the front, each fitted with a door and used as a passageway; above the door lintels of the left and right side bays a hongsal (red-arrow railing) is installed, while the two side bays are closed off with plank walls. The bracket sets are of the two-ikgong type without an outer projecting member; between the columns beneath the eaves, simplified flower-board-shaped brackets (chohwaban) are placed — three on the central door and two each on the other doors. For the roof frame, a main beam (daedeulbo) is set across the front and rear columns; a soro block is placed on the main beam, a floating tie-beam (changbang) above it, and a column-head bracket (judu) placed again on this floating tie-beam to support the ridge beam (jongnyang). The strut (daegong) atop the ridge beam takes the form of a payeon-daegong (lotus-wave strut); the floating tie-beam joined to this strut has three simply decorated carved boards (chogakban) placed between it and the ridge purlin above, reinforcing the middle section. The ceiling is an exposed-rafter (yeondeung) ceiling, entirely painted with dancheong, and on the front of this bay hangs a plaque reading 'Yeominru'.
