Sungmojeon Shrine is a memorial shrine located near Donghaksa Temple in Gongju. It enshrines the spirit tablet of King Danjong (the sixth king of Joseon, deposed and killed at age 17) along with the spirit tablets of many loyalist officials who were martyred during the political upheaval of 1456. The shrine serves as a place of mourning and reverence.
