Cheongdo Seokbinggo (Stone Ice Storage)

Cheongdo Seokbinggo is an ice storage from the Joseon period, built by digging into the ground to store ice. Cheongdo Seokbinggo was erected in 1713 and is the earliest built among the stone ice storages remaining today. The year of its construction can be confirmed from the content of the stone stele to the left of the entrance. The front of the stele records the number of people who took part in the construction, the cost, and the materials required, while the back lists the year, month, and day the stele was erected and the names of those involved. The interior is 14.75 m long, 5 m wide, and 4.4 m high. It was built in a long east-west form, with the entrance set on the west side; going inside down the stairs, the floor is slightly sloped. Only four semicircular arch-shaped vaults that connected the two walls remain, while the ceiling has completely collapsed, leaving it in an incomplete state. Nonetheless, among the stone ice storages remaining in our country to this day, it is the second largest in scale after the Gyeongju Seokbinggo.
