About this place

Near the Jogye Order's Seonggwansa Temple there was once a temple called 'Geumdeoksa,' but due to the frequent turnover of head monks and consequent mismanagement and neglect, it fell into ruin around the time of the Liberation of August 15. Venerable Moon Seong (Wolseong Seonsa) and Head Monk Samjin (三眞) built a new temple building on the present site in 1993 and named it 'Seonggwansa.' The area around this temple is said to be in the shape of white cranes in flight; it is built on the site where the cranes gather to peck for food along the ridgeline of Gipalbong, a spur of the Namdeogyusan mountain range.
