Seonhwadang was the main hall where the Joseon-era governor of Chungcheong Province conducted official duties. It was the center of provincial administration, military affairs, taxation, and important trials. Originally established in Chungju in 1395 (the 4th year of King Taejo), it was relocated to Gongju in 1602 (the 35th year of King Seonjo) to oversee the entire Chungcheong region.
