About this place

Dosan Seowon was founded in 1813 (Sunjo 13th year), demolished in 1868 (Gojong 5th year) under Heungseon Daewongun's seowon abolition order, and rebuilt in 1960. It was then relocated to its current site in 1997, and memorial rites are held every year on the 17th day of the 3rd lunar month. Among the figures venerated here, Kim Yeoseok served as an examiner, Doseungji (Royal Secretary), Chungcheong Provincial Governor, Daesaheon (Inspector-General), and Minister of Justice. He was also interested in promoting scholarship in his official capacity and compiled books on Neo-Confucianism, receiving a commendation from the king.
