Baekseok Seowon was a shrine built on Seungban Mountain in 1652 (the 3rd year of King Hyojong) to honor the learning and virtue of Yu Jip. It was abolished in 1868 (the 5th year of King Gojong) by Heungseon Daewongun's edict suppressing private academies. In 1902, a traditional tile-roofed wooden building with three bays across and two deep and a gabled (맞배) roof was rebuilt at the current location, and it has been maintained to this day.
