About this place

During the Imjin War, all the annals stored in archives except the Jeonju Archive were burned. Afterward, three additional copies of the annals from Taejo to Myeongjong were printed, so that together with the original Jeonju set and the corrected printed copies, five complete sets of annals were made and stored in the Chunchugwan, Manisan, Taebaeksan, Myohyangsan, and Odaesan archives. In 1641 (the 19th year of King Injo), the Seonwonjeon was established here and the Seonwollok was stored, giving the Jeoksang Mountain Archive its full function as a complete royal archive. Thirty-four facsimile volumes (27 volumes by dynasty, 7 volumes on Muju records) and five facsimile genealogical volumes were produced and kept. Twenty-two types of exhibition panels explaining the process of producing and transporting the annals were installed. Cultural heritage interpreters employed by Muju County explain to visitors in an accessible way the historical value of the Jeoksang Mountain Archive and the Joseon Wangjo Sillok (Annals of the Joseon Dynasty), making it a must-visit attraction especially for families with students.
