About this place

Buljusa Temple is a branch temple of Geumsansa, the head temple of the 17th district of the Korean Buddhist Jogye Order, located in the Gundun village of Napo-myeon. Originally called Buljisa, the temple was later renamed Buljusa. It is the only Buddhist temple in the Gunsan area to have a iljumun (single-pillar gate). The nameplate on the gate reads 'Chwiseong-san Buljusa' — Chwiseong-san (also known as Manghae-sa Mountain, or Bongwha Mountain) is a peak overlooking the West Sea. The temple possesses seasonal beauty: in spring, fresh green sprouts emerge and azaleas color the surroundings, transforming into a world of new green. After spending summer with the lush green trees, red cluster-amaryllis flowers around the temple herald the coming of autumn. Simply watching the changes of nature here is itself a Buddhist experience, offering true healing. Near Buljusa are Manghaesan and Bongwha-san mountains, and visitors can also explore Impi Hyanggyo together. The Gubul Route 2 (Sunlight Path) and the Geumgang River Bicycle Path are also worth experiencing.
