About this place

Sindunsa Temple is situated at the foot of Namsan (South Mountain), the sacred mountain of the region and a famous peak of Yeongnam. It was founded in 1173 by National Preceptor Bojo Jinul under the name Bongnim-sa, and was rebuilt by Master Sanggyeon in 1667 during the Joseon dynasty. The name was changed to Sindunsa during its reconstruction in 1878. In modern times, the monk Songho Yeongchan carried out repairs in 1926, laying the foundation for today's Sindunsa. The temple grounds consist of the Daeungjeon (main hall), Samseongak, Cheongpungnu, and Beomjongak, as well as monk's quarters.
