Hyujeong Confucian Academy was established in the 25th year of King Sukjong (1699) in Yeonsan. Yu Mu was enshrined as the main figure, with Yu Mun-won, Yi Hang-gil, Kim Jeong-mang, and Gwon Su added subsequently. It was abolished by the 1871 edict closing academies, restored in 1919, and then moved to its current site in 1984 after the area was flooded by the Tapjeong Reservoir.
