About this place

Hyanggyo were institutions founded by the state to honor Confucius and various sages and to educate and enlighten the local populace. Dangjin Confucian School is said to have been founded in either the 7th year of King Taejo (1398) or the 7th year of King Taejong (1407). The current buildings include the Daeseongjeong shrine, the Myungnyundang lecture hall, the east and west dormitories, a triple gate, and a ritual vessel storehouse. Inside the Daeseongjeong are the tablets of Confucius and various Chinese and Korean sages. During the Joseon period, students were taught with support of government-granted land, servants, and books; today only the ceremonial function remains.
