Yongho Seowon (Namwon)

Yongho Seowon is located near Yungmojeong. Yongho Seowon is a Confucian academy established in 1927, led chiefly by Confucian scholars belonging to the Wondong hyangyakgye (village covenant association). At the time of its founding, it enshrined a portrait of Zhu Xi, the Song-dynasty Confucian scholar, and held memorial rites for him; however, the enshrined figures were later changed to Song Byeong-seon, a late-Joseon patriot known by the pen name Yeonjae, along with Kim Jae-hong (pen name Yeongsong) and Kim Jong-ga (pen name Ipheon), who fostered younger scholars and practiced virtuous deeds in the Namwon region. The academy buildings were repaired in 1974, and they now consist of Gyeongyangsa, a shrine with a matbae (gabled) roof measuring 3 bays at the front and 1 bay at the side; Mokgandang and Suseongjae, which serve as the Dongjae and Seojae buildings; and the main gate of the raised sotsal-samun style.
