Gamcheon Culture Village

Saha-gu, Busan

Gamcheon Culture Village in Saha-gu, Busan, is a stepped hillside neighborhood of pastel-colored houses, alley murals, and sculptural installations that has become one of Busan's most celebrated cultural and arts destinations. The settlement grew from a wartime refugee camp during the Korean War, and through an arts regeneration project it has earned the nickname the Machu Picchu of Korea for its distinctive tiered cityscape. A stamp tour hunting down sculptures and photo spots hidden between maze-like alleys is a popular activity, and the sunset view looking down over the city from the hilltop should not be missed. It is a place for quiet, immersive travel where visitors gently enter the daily rhythms of a living neighborhood.
