Cheonggyecheon

Jung-gu, Seoul

Cheonggyecheon is a restored urban stream running east to west through central Seoul, reborn as a beloved public walkway. The old concrete-covered waterway was excavated to revive a clear, flowing stream, transforming a busy overpass corridor into a vibrant pedestrian promenade. Bridges, small waterfalls, and murals dot the length of the stream from Cheonggyecheon Plaza, offering interesting sights at every turn. In late autumn and winter, the annual lantern festival illuminates the waterway with vivid colors, creating one of Seoul's most stunning night photography spots. The sound of flowing water amid the energy of the city creates a uniquely soothing contrast to the surrounding urban bustle.
