Cheorwon Hantangang Jusangjeolli Trail

Gangwon

Cheorwon Hantangang Jusangjeolli Trail is a trekking course carved along the basalt columnar joint cliffs of the Hantan River gorge in Cheorwon County, Gangwon Province, where volcanic activity hundreds of thousands of years ago sculpted a grand canyon-like landscape. A cliff-hugging plank road (jando) installed partway up the sheer basalt walls brings hikers face to face with the emerald river below and the towering columns of rock, earning the trail its nickname, the Grand Canyon of Korea. Observation decks and photo spots positioned throughout the gorge allow visitors to capture the overwhelming scenery of V-shaped cliffs meeting the river. Combining the trail with Hantan River rafting and geological park tours offers a multi-faceted adventure through Cheorwon's unique volcanic terrain.
