Gwangjang Market

Jongno-gu, Seoul

Gwangjang Market in Jongno-gu is one of Seoul's oldest and most storied traditional markets, with a history spanning over a century. It has earned a worldwide reputation as a street food paradise, drawing domestic and international visitors with its bindaetteok (mung bean pancakes), mayak gimbap (addictive mini rice rolls), raw beef yukhoe, and spicy tteokbokki. Walking the narrow market lanes, visitors encounter rows of stalls presided over by the warm-hearted vendors who embody the spirit of old Seoul. Steaming pots and sizzling griddles surrounded by energetic crowds make for irresistible photo opportunities. The lively atmosphere, filled with the aromas of freshly cooked food and the bustle of a living marketplace, is utterly unlike any modern shopping experience.
