Gyeongju Hwangnidan-gil

Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk

Hwangnidan-gil in Hwangnam-dong, Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, is an alley running along the wall of Daereungwon, where the tombs of Silla kings are gathered, packed with unique cafes and restaurants converted from traditional hanok houses. The sunlight streaming over the tiled roofs of the old hanok buildings and the quiet alley scenery combine to evoke the distinctive retro ambiance unique to Gyeongju. Shops selling Gyeongju specialties such as chalboribang (glutinous barley bread), hwangnam-ppang, ssambap, and Korean-style desserts line the street, making it popular for food exploration. At dusk, the illuminated hanok cafes alongside the ancient burial mounds of Daereungwon create a uniquely atmospheric evening view.
