Namhae German Village
Namhae, Gyeongnam
The German Village in Samdong-myeon, Namhae, South Gyeongsang Province, was established by Korean miners and nurses who worked in Germany during the 1960s and 1970s and returned home to settle here. Red-roofed European-style buildings line the coastal hillside against the vivid blue backdrop of the Southern Sea, making this one of the most distinctively foreign-feeling photography destinations in Korea. Restaurants and guesthouses serving traditional German food and beer operate throughout the year, and an Oktoberfest festival is held every autumn. The harmonious contrast of red rooftops and deep-blue sea, as seen from the hillside viewpoint, is the defining scene of this village.
