Buyeo's Sachuldo Administrative Divisions

Buyeo was a federated kingdom in which the aristocratic chiefs (ga) — the Maga, Uga, Jeoga, and Guga — each governed their own administrative district called a sachuldo under the king.

Key developments

  1. 왕권Royal Authority

The king of Buyeo represented the entire state but was constrained by the power of the noble 'Ga' lords.

  2. 행정 구역Four-Road Administrative Division

Beyond the king's domain, the territory was divided into four roads — east, west, south, north — each ruled by a Ga lord.

  3. 자치성Tribal Autonomy of the Ga

Each Ga lord held autonomous authority to govern the people within their own territory.

  4. 연맹 성격Limits of the Confederate Kingdom

The four-road system reflects the characteristics of a confederate kingdom lacking strong centralized power.
